Help Remell: A Heartfelt Call for Support

Updated: Jul 29

Today I’m reaching out with a heavy heart but also with hope and determination. I’ve created this fundraiser for my dear friend and coworker, Remell Tillis. If you know Remell, you know she’s one of the kindest, funniest, and strongest individuals you’ll ever meet. But right now, she’s facing a battle that’s testing her strength in unimaginable ways.

A few months ago, Remell began feeling extremely sick. She’s been losing weight, unable to eat, and feeling overwhelmingly tired. She’s undergoing a series of tests to rule out the terrifying possibility of cancer and to check for other infections. As many of us know, the process of medical testing can be agonizingly slow, and the waiting game is unbearable. You can visit her GoFundMePage here.

Visit WhimziePop Empowerment's shop here. 50% of sales from all WhimziePop Empowerment Merchandise with be donated to Remell and her five grandchildren.

Remell’s health has deteriorated to the point where she can’t work. She’s battling constant fatigue, unable to keep food down, and dealing with dehydration. Tragically, she’s not receiving any disability benefits at this time. Just recently, she returned to work after surgery on her hand due to a work injury. The disability money she received for that injury was insufficient to support her and her five grandchildren, especially with the skyrocketing costs of food, gas, and utilities in Los Angeles. She was relieved to be back at work, but now, she’s stricken with a serious illness.

Remell’s worries go beyond her health. She’s responsible for her five adorable grandchildren, aged 5 to 12, who live with her. These children have already faced unimaginable hardships. Her grandson was attacked by a pitbull, and the family survived a traumatic drive-by shooting in their neighborhood. The fear and trauma they experienced broke my heart, and I constantly pray for their safety and health.

Adding to this already overwhelming stress, Remell’s home is in foreclosure, and she and her grandchildren are facing imminent eviction, possibly within the next three days to three months. Her car is also inoperable, needing a new transmission she cannot afford. She relies on expensive Lyft rides for doctor appointments and grocery runs.

Despite these immense challenges, Remell remains a person of strong faith and unyielding kindness. My heart aches for the burden she bears. She needs rest and healing, but it’s nearly impossible with the looming threat of homelessness and an undiagnosed serious illness.

I wanted to share Remell’s story because she deserves all the best this world has to offer. Instead of being paralyzed by worry, I decided to take action. I’m reaching out to find the angels out there who can help by donating to this incredible, resilient soul. Our goal is to secure a new, affordable place for Remell and her grandchildren, sparing them from the shelter system.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I’m deeply grateful for any support you can provide, whether through donations or by sharing Remell’s story with your network. With heartfelt gratitude,
