As an advocate for girls’ empowerment and the LGBTQ+ community, I’ve always been passionate about creating safe, expressive spaces as possible for children to explore their creativity and emotions and especially children in Rainbow families.

WhimziePop Empowerment Bead and Poetry Parties & Workshops for Rainbow Families are joyful, creative, and empowering gatherings designed to celebrate expression, connection, and confidence through writing and affirmation bracelets.

The Power of Expressive Writing, Crafting, and Art

Writing and crafting have always been deeply therapeutic for me. Since childhood, I’ve known how much power there is in putting words and creativity into motion. Expressive writing can be such a healing tool — a way to build confidence, release anxiety, and strengthen emotional well-being.

Growing up as a creative child who suffered from Meniere’s Disease — an illness that caused severe dizziness and hearing loss — I often turned to writing to cope with fear and sadness. Writing poetry, short stories, or even little journal entries always lifted my spirits. I wasn’t taught that writing was therapeutic, but I felt its benefits every time I picked up a pen.

Over time, I learned that creative expression—whether through words or hands-on crafts and art—helps release tension and boosts mental clarity. Whenever I wrote or created something, I felt lighter and more centered. That understanding still drives me today, which has led to the publication of my MG novel, "Amberly and the Secret of the Fairy Warriors," and "WhimziePop Empowerment Scripts: A SEL, Expressive Screenwriting & Art Adventure," inspired by my love of screenwriting and film. As an authorpreneur, all proceeds from any of my books or merchandise from my CafePress store go toward my mission of empowering children in rainbow families.

As someone devoted to both girls’ empowerment and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community, I hold rainbow families close to my heart. I believe that children growing up in LGBTQ+ families deserve affirming spaces that help them express who they are and celebrate the love that surrounds them.

Research shows that children of LGBTQ+ parents are more likely to face bullying or social challenges. Through WhimziePop Empowerment Bead and Poetry Parties, my goal is to help these children — and all children — build resilience, confidence, and pride in their identities.

What Happens at a Bead and Poetry Party

Each Bead and Poetry Party combines expressive writing and creative crafting for children ages 6 to 11 (and their families). The children are guided to write short, empowering poems and affirmations, then turn those positive messages into affirmation bead bracelets they can wear or gift.

Beading is not only fun but also incredibly therapeutic and mindful. It helps calm the nervous system, encourages focus, and allows children (and adults!) to express creativity with their hands. I personally love making bracelets — they’ve become one of my favorite grounding activities.

How It All Began

ree

Recently, at a family reunion, I set up a small bead table for my little cousins. Alongside their parents, the kids created their own bracelets and had an absolute blast! That day sparked the idea for WhimziePop Empowerment Bead and Poetry Parties — I realized how powerful it was to blend expressive writing with creative, hands-on activities. With my experience as a preschool teacher and as an art activity facilitator in a courthouse children's waiting room, I decided to put my experience and creativity to work!

My Wish for WhimziePop Empowerment

My wish is to continue expanding these parties and workshops — both in-person and through community partnerships with LGBTQ+ centers, schools, and nonprofits. I hope to host events that benefit rainbow families, promote inclusivity, and empower children to express themselves proudly.
